“The greatest journey you can take is the one within yourself.” -- don Miguel Ruiz Jr. Outside Mexico City lies the ancient pyramid complex of Teotihuacan, which, according to the oral tradition of the Ruiz family, is the spiritual center for the Toltec people. For over twenty years, don Miguel Ruiz Jr. has been traveling to Teotihuacan to teach others about the powerful mysteries found there. In The Mastery of Life, Ruiz explains how the sacred pyramids and plazas of Teotihuacan act as symbolic stops on the transformative path of Toltec Warriors—those who apply the teachings of the Toltecs in their own lives to win the inner war against the forces of domestication, fear, and self-judgment. At the same time, he guides you on your own inner journey, helping you to experience firsthand the transformative power of the Toltec teachings without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. Each chapter contains practical exercises and reflections designed to help you find peace and personal freedom in your own life, right now. Your journey awaits.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life as we perceive it is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and all of our dreams come together to make the Dream of the Planet. Problems arise when we forget that the dream is just a dream and fall victim to believing that we have no control over it. The Mastery of Self takes the Toltec philosophy of the Dream of the Planet and the personal dream and explains how a person can: Wake up Liberate themselves from illusory beliefs and stories Live with authenticity Once released, we can live as our true, authentic, loving self, not only in solitude and meditation, but in any place—at the grocery store, stuck in traffic, etc.—and in any situation or scenario that confronts us. Individuals sometimes derive sexual pleasure from submission to cruel discipline. While that predilection was noted as early as the sixteenth century, masochism was not codified as a concept until 1890. According to John K. Noyes, its invention reflected a crisis in the liberal understanding of subjectivity and sexuality which continues to inform discussions of masochism today. In essence, it remains a political concept. Viennese physician Richard von Krafft-Ebing coined the term masochism, based on the work of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. Noyes analyzes the social and political problems that inspired the concept, suggesting, for example, that the triumphant expansion of European colonialism was in part animated by an ambivalence in masculine sexuality. Noyes documents the evolution of the concept of masochism with scenes in literature from John Cleland's Fanny Hill through Sacher-Masoch's Venus in Furs and Pauline Reage's Story of 0. Analysis of Freud's vastly influential rereading of masochism precedes an exploration of the work of his successors, including Wilhem Reich, Theodor Reik, Helene Deutsch, and Karen Horney. Noyes suggests that the thematics of feminine masochism emerged only gradually from an exclusively male concept.

Sex is the rhythm of life.” In this essential book written by Soham Hamsa (pseudonym), we hear a friendly voice from the Himalayas directed to all those who are genuine truth seekers and lovers of life anywhere on this planet, containing a deep concern for their naturality and attitude toward sex and sexuality. It is obvious that the author has access to a unique knowledge and oral tradition from India and the Himalayas, which for a major part never before have been made known to the public. The book, which all the way through is logical in its composition, is straight to the point with a variety of practical exercises, and with its size, compactness, easily understood illustrations and richly furnished glossary, it really acts as a handy manual on the subject. And as such, it is probably the only really authoritative work in its field.

The Inner Game of Music, the breakout hit that became a standard primer in the music world, has taught thousands of musicians—professionals and amateurs alike—how to overcome self-consciousness and stage fright and to recapture a youthful, almost effortless capacity to learn. Now, in his follow-up book, The Mastery of Music, Barry Green turns his expert hand to the artistic qualities that make an extraordinary musician. Culling advice from dozens of interviews with legends including Joshua Bell, Dave Brubeck, Jeffrey Kahane, Bobby McFerrin, Christopher Parkening, Doc Severinsen, Frederica von Stade, the Harlem Boys Choir, and the Turtle Island String Quartet, he reveals that it’s not enough to have a cerebral and emotional connection to the notes. Green hows how musical excellence, exhibited by true virtuosos, requires a mastery of ten unique qualities of the soul and the human spirit, such as confidence, passion, discipline, creativity, and relaxed concentration, and he discusses specific ways in which all musicians, composers, and conductors can take their skills to higher levels. He carefully incorporates all instruments and techniques in his rejuvenating discussions, inspiring the stifled student to have fun again and the over-rehearsed performer to rediscover the joy of passionate expression. Essential reading for every musician, The Mastery of Music strikes a beautiful new chord.
